John Kay & Company: The Lost Heritage Tapes (CD)

This John Kay solo album was recorded in 1976 while Steppenwolf took a hiatus.  However, the album was never released.  It was shelved and forgotten due to changes in record label affiliation.  Finally released in 2005, it features guest performances by Lowell George & Bill Payne (of Little Feat), Nicky Hopkins, and the Tower of Power Horns, among others. A mix of various styles and a broad range of songs make this record unusually rich in musical textures and contrasts.
